Wuhu Island Explorer
A downloadable game for Windows
~ Welcome back to Wuhu Island! ~
Let's be real here, most (if not all) of us, who played Wii Sports Resort or any other games that featured Wuhu Island, wanted to just roam around and explore Wuhu Island freely without any time limit or other restrictions. Wuhu Island is probably one of the most memorable locations ever from Nintendo! This island is really inviting for a nice vacation. I mean, Wii Sports Resort does have the word "Resort" for a reason you know! While we barely get to see this beloved island nowadays in the Switch era, it will always have a place in our heart.
And now, you finally can explore Wuhu Island however you want! In Wuhu Island Explorer, you can walk, run, jump, swim and dive around this iconic location without any restrictions. And all this on glorious HD! I tried my best to give you the best Wuhu Island experience possible with the Unity engine. I hope you like the result here. This Wuhu Island is from Wii Sports Resort, however, I did some edits, such as fixing small errors, adding areas beneath water and so on. I also added stuff from the Wii Fit Plus version of Wuhu Island, such as the updated light tower, castle and some other stuff, to make it more complete. You can also freely explore Wedge Island!
There are 8 playable Mii characters, which are the two default male and female Mii's (with the male wearing blue instead of red for more variety). The other 6 are the Guest Mii's, which should be well-known. There are also a decent amount of options. You can toggle between the default outfit and swimwear in the pause menu, as well as fast travel. You can fast travel to places that aren't possible to reach and this also help if you got stuck.
If you want to know the controls, you can look it up in the second page of the Information menu. There are also some game recommendations if you want to experience Wuhu Island more *legit*. Also, please check out the Credits.txt for a full list of credits, as well as other text files for changelog and FAQ.
PLEASE NOTE:
This is not a 100% perfect 1:1 port of Wuhu Island to the Unity engine. I'm not really that skilled with Unity and Blender, so I did the best I could do. Also not sure if the placement of the props and colors of certain textures on the island/buildings are 100% correct. Especially the water textures. Also not sure if the ambient sounds are all correct, as well as the paths the vehicles are driving. However, in total, it should be close enough. Also, there might be bugs here and there, again, since I'm not really a that skilled programmer with Unity. While there's limited gamepad support for the game, I would recommend playing with mouse & keyboard.
MUSIC TIP:
If you like to listen to something while exploring Wuhu Island, I put together a playlist on YouTube that features some relaxing music from the 3DS/Wii/Wii U era. Just disable "Menu Music" and "Local Music" in Wuhu Island Explorer and then load the playlist on your browser. I also recommend enabling Shuffle (above the list when playing a video from that list). Here's the list.

this was amazing! I loved every little bit about it! I would love to see this become a full on open world game like breath of the wild! multiplayer would be sick too. or make it like battlebit but on wuhu island
THIS GAME IS AWESOME! The only thing It's missing is the ability to use your own Mii files as characters.
Just noticed that cars on Wuhu Island are all electric (read that on the I point "Off-Road Vehicle"), but in your game, they make sound like a reciprocating engine. Do you think you can replace the sound to be more accurate with the island's lore?
Also, do you think it would be possible to add the earlier version of the island from Wii Fit? Would be cool to explore this one too!
Hey, would you be able to open-source this? I see you mentioned the possibility in the README, but I would love to get my hands on the code to help. I am a Unity developer and can assist in adding highly requested functionality (multiplayer, rideable vehicles, etc).
Hey !
The mod is great and all the memories created with Wii Sport Resort came back when I saw the map and was able to walk around it.
I hope this mod is still in development.
It would be super cool to have the possibility to drive a car, or use the bike like in Wii Sport Resort on the Main Island; a golf cart on Golf Island, and the Jet Ski on the mother. Afterwards, why not have the plane again. Or even have a glider like in Zelda BOTW.!
But in any case, great game, I'm looking forward to the new updates, and why not a Multiplayer mode, or even an RPG ;)
you are awesome, you made my dream come true
This is a really cool game that I wish nintendo would actually make. Loved it to bits! Though, there is a bug where if a controller is plugged in, the game would freak out with the camera constantly up close and spinning in circles, and it's like this until i quit and restart the game with the controller unplugged.
PLEASE make this available for mac! I know it's not easy, but it would be very appreciated
thank you so much for making this game, it's made me so unbelievably happy to be able to explore this place that has always been a safe space for me haha.
I'm not sure if you're interested in working any further on this, but if you are, I'd love to suggest a way to use a bicycle. Aside from the airplane one, it was my favorite minigame, and it would make it easier to get around such a large map. Additionally, it would be nice to see other miis in the plaza or standing around the tourist attractions like in the original game. Also, it's trivial, but the pond duckies by the castle! :3
Again, thank you so much for doing this. It's really so amazing to be able to experience a childhood dream come true ^_^
MY CHILDHOOD DREAM COME TRUE
THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3
I love this so much! Do you have a Patreon or buy me a coffee? It's a privilege that this is free, but I know you must have put a TON of hours into this and I want to pay you for your labor!!
Additionally, I see a lot of people commenting recommendations for updates, would you consider onboarding people to help? I'd work for free of course, I'm just really excited and passionate about this project!! I'm no where near your skill level, but I'm sure I can help with something, and I'm a quick learner.
I love love love this project, please let me know how I can support it!
My website is Pink Lemon Trousers and you can email me at my business email: beth.gardner@pinklemontrousers.com
Hey! You could add some ways of traveling around the island. There are already ways to travel, but make the useful. For example, yatches, jet ski, cars, bikes, planes. Also, you could add the interior of the bowling saloon, and open the basketball court.
Thanks for the experience, makes me relive my childhood memories!
can you please please please add island fly over
Its so NOSTALGIC OMG :')
but please fix the sea caddy please its so frustating
DUDE THIS IS SO AMAZING BUT *PLEASE* ADD DAY/NIGHTTIME CYLE I REALLY WANNA KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN THE SUNSET
I have played this and I will say it is very fun! And I don't usually gravitate towards "empty world free roam" games! Really great job!
However, I have noticed a few "technical issues" and have a few suggestions for the game, should you continue to work on it.
(This is just how I would customize the current state of the game for myself and is in no way trying to put you down or criticize you or the game.)
In the order that I have come across each "issue":
1. Issue/Suggestion- Option for remapping game controllers. (With my Logitech G F310 gamepad I can't look around while sprinting and the B button pauses the game. Also, there is no button to dive with the gamepad. I tried using a third-party remapping software and it didn't do anything.)
2. Issue- The first-person camera and third-person camera can face different directions. (e.g. First-person can face south while third-person faces north causing character to turn around when you change the view and are moving forward.) Probably what I would do about this is make it so that when entering first-person mode the third-person camera matches the first-person camera angle relative to the character. I haven't used Unity so I don't know how it would work in there, but I understand the logic needed to do this. (EDIT 1 MONTH LATER: I just realized it's probably not that simple. I also found the FAQ in the game files since. Is it possible to make Cinemachine cameras children of each other? If so could it work to make the 3rd-person a child of the 1st-person and then rotate the 1st-person whether 3rd-person is active or not? Or something like that?)
3. Suggestion- Maybe a way to swim faster under water.
4. Suggestion- Also the whales are kinda slow compared to the original so I would speed them up a bit.
Like many others I would also like to see vehicles, custom Miis, NPCs and such.
Again, this is just what I PERSONALLY would change about the current state of the game.
I won't say "Nintendo needs to" but I do think it would be cool if they offered to license this game making it an official Wuhu Island free-roam.
Once more, really great job! Keep up the good work! :)
P.S. I just realized this has been updated 5 DAYS AGO! I will try the new version and say which of my "issues" still stand. :)
I have tested and yes, my original comment still stands. I also noticed you can't unpause with the pause button on the gamepad, so that's something else I would change.
I'm not trying to sound pushy and I am not trying to take over your game. These are just some things I noticed and thought I'd bring them to your attention.
Again, keep up the good work. :)
I'm running on linux with lutris and the game refuses to be 16.9 aspect ratio. It's stuck in a box and the UI is overlapping so it has to be on the game's side. I tried everything any help?
I finally was able to get it widescreen on my steam deck by starting it with these steam launch options
You can adjust this to your resolution, not sure about something similar in lutris.
How are you playing it on steam deck without lutris?
You can add games and programs for Windows to the steam deck in Steam through the menu bar at the top (in desktop mode). In "Games" click "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library..." and then select this exe. After it creates the game, you go into the properties for it and go to the compatibility tab. You should be able to set it to use the newest version of Proton (9 something) and after that it should load!
While you're still in the properties, you'll need to put this into launch options to get widescreen just for this specific game, haven't needed this otherwise:
I have been adding random Windows programs and games this way and they work pretty well. Also lets you access it from the main steam deck menus and use the layouts which is nice.
There's gotta be a way for me to import my own Miis into this game. Even if I haven't downloaded the game yet.
theres a screamer????? what is it?
deleted post? screamer? i'm getting curious
Same here
i need day and nigt tockol in setings or pos menu pls
We NEED more movement! A seaplane at the docks that you can fly, a jetski at the grotto or something, and definitely a car! Online multiplayer would be great too. NPC's would top it all off and make this feel truly alive!
Also, how would I make this work with an actual Wii remote? My sister really wants that to happen because she wants to relive the Wii experience. Or even VR? ;) thanks for the game anyway!
Even the Wiis wasn't the part of my childhood, the game was so good! But I recommend add these features for the future updates:
- Rideable vehicles
- Custom miis
- NPCs
- Minigames
- Online multiplayer and servers
- More outfits (with custom outfits included)
Thank you for making this game that reminiscing everyone's childhood memories!
Hello, i really want to play this game,
i saw some youtubers, like Vinny play this
and i was really interested, unfortunately,
i can't download this, could you please
make it avaible for Macbook Air too?
Oh yes, i really want you to add the
possibility to drive cars and put more
cars around the map oh! almost forgot
put some NPCs where you can interact,
talk to them, please do this, have a nice day!
Honestly, this game is awesome, but I'd like to make a few suggestions
1) The ability to jump while swimming would be nice
2) It'd be neat to be able to use a custom Mii
3) more outfits, travel spots and the ability to get into the basketball court would be dandy imho
I really enjoyed the nostalgia this game gave me. I loved the game and how accurate it is as I remember, as I've always dreamt with a game where you can free roam Wuhu Island.
I know it's a practically new game, but for next updates I'd recomend the option of having an automatic running button, the ability to ride boats, cars, bikes or another type of transport, and other mii's in the island (like NPC's)
Maybe this is too much, but the option to make custom Mii's or having the ability to get Mii's from 3ds or Wii? and maybe you could see other people Mii's roaming in the island
Really thank you, I played it a little bit, and you created the dream I had when I was a kid, which was to be able to play freely around the map without timers or impediments of various kinds and types. What I'm waiting for is for you to provide some sports/vehicles that I can have a little more fun with. In any case, I found the map faithful without any problems.
I suggest you add:
-Aeroplane
-Jetski
-Bike
This looks amazing, is a Mac export possible? Crossover crashes when I try to install.
why cant it work on MAC?
Why did you ever assumed you could game on a Mac?
i cant find out i to get to the start screen!!
what do u mean u don't know if you're gonna update it???😭😭😭 u GOT to add miis and NPCS and the ability to driveeeee
I have no words for this its just to beautiful
I really wanted to check this out but when I spawn the camera starts spinning in circles, even when I turn my mouse off :(
If you fix this bug I'll personally visit your home and kiss your shoes.
I've had exactly the same problem as you and it's not this game's fault. What I needed to do (and what might work for you as well) is open up "Configure vJoy" and then disable all axes for each device. After that, you gotta restart your PC and then it should work.
When you want to play another game where you need to use a controller or some other vJoy device then you gotta reactivate them again. Hope this helps. :)
I had the exact same problem, it turned out to be my flight yoke that somehow the throttle lever acted as a X axis pad. not sure if this is your exact problem, but it's similar and kinda funny so... yeah.
Playing this with tears in my eyes. tysm!
This is really lovely -- I grow really attached to fictional places, and Wuhu Island has always been a favorite. Thank you so much for this fangame!
can u add drivable vehicles in the game like cars/paragliders
nice
holy FUCK. i've always wanted to do this.
The most legendary game I have ever witnessed
Please add a setting to remove the dot in the middle of the screen
I want to take nice screenshots of this beautiful game
No Linux version? :(
i had to use wine to run it
Let me rephrase it (yes I know of Wine and Proton and so on): No native Linux version? :(
